Mine Hoist in Motion.wmv

This is a personnel and equipment hoist that I designed for a coal mine in West Virginia. The hoist is 40000 pound rope pull at at 500 feet a minute. There are two seperate spring applied brakes. Normal stopping and starting is very smooth and repeatable. I believe several safety features are unique to my design. The hoist will automatically take up slack if the magnetic brake car stops on the slope. There is a quick acting slack rope switch. A torque slip clutch protects against an overhauling shock load, and is rated 4x normal torque, while the yield strength of all the mechanical components is 7x normal full load torque.
