Hoisting The Kids 11-22-09

The kids wanted to make a "ropes course" in the maple tree. I didn't have any pulleys, so we made a very squeaky an inefficient one ourselves and then had some fun hoisting the kids and one neighbor. We made the wear helmets which came in handy when Callum tested the first draft of the pulley by hoisting his bike over his head. When the rope failed, his helmet received the bike instead of his head :)

Wraptor Gasoline Powered Winch Hoists Tree Climber

A decent sized Douglas Fir with a climbing rope anchored overhead is used to demonstrate the Wraptor. The spool grips the line securely while the 2-cycle engine spins the gear reduction drive to 'walk' the climber up the rope to the top of the tree. Video by Michael Oxman

Model of the USS Gerald R. Ford CVN78

A model of CVN-78 which is on display at the USS Midway Museum in San Diego. I don't like putting other peoples/organizations videos on my channel without their permission, so this is the only video I've personally filmed about CVN78. Obviously it is not constructed yet and won't be finished until 2015. The air show stuff and Navy ship stuff on my youtube site is my own video works entirely. Six of the ten Nimitz-class supercarriers I have filmed myself, personally, and whenever (if) I get to the east coast and have time I'll film the other four. The link above is the best, but below are some other links where you can get more interesting unclassified information and technical specs... en.wikipedia.org www.naval-technology.com en.wikipedia.org Video www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com " CVN 78 Facts Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is the Navy's first aircraft carrier to be completely designed using a 3-dimensional product model. The overall design of the ship provides the Navy a more capable ship with reduced weight to allow for future technology insertion, increased sortie generation capability, 2.5 times more electrical power and reduced cost. The Gerald R. Ford class-aircraft carriers have been redesigned from the Nimitz class. They have the same hull lines and the same number of decks as a Nimitz-class carrier, but the footprint of the general arrangement has been totally rearranged to accommodate a new technology and meet all of the Navy's operational ...

Elevator governor

This is a Kone elevator governor in operation. You know how, in movies, someone cuts the elevator cables and it plunges to certain doom? This mechanism prevents that. The rotating wheel has two flyweights, held back by springs. If the elevator moves too quickly in either direction, these will fly outwards and hit the stop arm at the top, electrically shutting off the elevator motor via a limit switch, and mechanically stopping it by driving wedges against the guide rails in the shaft. The rope running over the pulley seen here is seperate from the hoist ropes and only serves to activate safety mechanisms.

Lifesling Inflatable Overboard Rescue System

Get your crewmember back onboard safely and quickly! Outfit your boat for safety with the Lifesling Inflatable. It combines the functionality of the Lifesling and the throwability of a rescue throw rope to make an accurate toss to your fellow crewmate in the water much easier. Simply toss like a throw rope bag and upon hitting the water the Lifesling inflates almost instantly to provide a connection between your overboard crewmember and the vessel. It's great for use in conditions where your crewmember cannot be reached by vessel—in surf, shoals, rocks or rivers or where a more compact rescue device is desired. Heavy-duty nylon webbing provides enough strength to hoist a water-soaked crewmember with ease. The inflation mechanism is the industry-standard Halkey-Roberts Pro-6F inflator. The sling, valise and 125' of 8mm, multi-filament, yellow polypropylene line are stored in a white compact fiberglass case designed to be mounted on the stern or a pulpit. Includes three railmounts and fasteners for mounting.
